Highlights

  • JP Morgan & Chase made a contribution of USD 400,000 for the project Nutrimos El Salvador.
The project is designed to benefit infants on their first 1,000 days.

  • A delegation from Seoul of the International Cooperation Agency of Korea (KOIKA) visited as a follow-up mission to establish a partnership with both WFP and the Ministry of Agriculture of El Salvador. KOIKA will provide a contribution of USD 8 million to fund a climate-change adaptation and resilience project in the departments of San Miguel and Morazan.

WFP Assistance

The Main objectives are: (1) to meet immediate food needs of the most vulnerable food insecure households and communities affected by shocks, and (2) facilitate early recovery through asset creation laying the foundation for a transition to resilience building. Thus, 51,058 people affected by drought have been assisted through Food for Asset (FFA)/Food for Training (FFT) activities with support from NGO partners and government counterparts.

The objective of this Nutrition Trust Fund is to prevent stunting among children under 2 years, and malnutrition in pregnant and nursing women. Using Canadian funds, WFP has introduced Super Cereal Plus in supermarkets under a private brand (Dany), thus making the product available to all consumers. The shift from direct distribution of the commodity at health centers to the provision of commodity vouchers, reduces the burden on the health system and makes existing cash transfers and social protection mechanisms more nutrition sensitive. A NUTRIMOS II trust fund is under approval.

Under the ProFarmers Trust Fund, WFP is working with the Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) to build upon and scale up the success reached through Purchase for Progress (P4P) activities in previous years. The goal of ProFarmers is to link 50,000 smallholder staple grain farmers to formal markets.
